Hello blog.
Ever notice how summer nights feel hotter than they used to, leaving you tossing and turning until 3 a.m?
Or how the hum of an air conditioner never quite seems enough during heatwaves? Maybe this is just me. I am from Arizona after all....
It’s not just you (or me)—climate change is messing with our sleep.
And sleep isn’t just about feeling rested; it’s about our health, our focus, and even how our bodies fight disease. Yet more and more, the simple act of falling asleep feels like a luxury rather than a given. Rising global temperatures, longer heatwaves, and unpredictable weather patterns are creating the perfect storm for restless nights and groggy mornings.
Even when the sun sets, the warmth lingers, trapping cities in sweltering heat. Those pockets of concrete and asphalt that soak up and radiate heat turn neighborhoods into overnight ovens, leaving residents tossing and turning under sweat-soaked sheets.
Extreme weather from hurricanes to wildfires, don’t just destroy infrastructure, they disrupt daily routines, sleep schedules, and the very sense of safety we need to rest. Meanwhile, the looming anxiety over climate change itself keeps our minds racing long after dark, making us hyper-aware of news alerts, forecasts, and the world’s uncertainties.
Chronic sleep deprivation is no small inconvenience; it affects mood, memory, metabolism, and even immune function, leaving our bodies less equipped to fight disease, regulate hormones, and repair themselves overnight. The truth is, sleep is a superpower we can’t afford to lose, and climate change is quietly robbing it from us.
